Mr. Tommy Battles's Courses
at Jefferson State Community College
Find common information on my courses here. Enrolled students may also find the information on Jeff State's Blackboard site.
My courses:
- CIS 130 - Introduction to Information Systems (basic computer terminology and applications)
- CIS 146 - Microcomputer Applications (Microsoft Office 2019)
- CIS 150 - Introduction to Computer Logic and Programming (required for all CIS majors; a prerequisite for CIS 215, 251, and 255; formerly CIS 110)
- CIS 157 - Introduction to App Development with Swift (the first of three courses in a Swift App Development program)
- CIS 220 - App Development with Swift I (the second of three courses in a Swift App Development program)
- CIS 227 - App Development with Swift II (the last of three courses in a Swift App Development program)
- CIS 251 - C++ Programming (required for CIS programming majors and for certain transfer degrees in Computer Science and Engineering)
- CIS 255 - Java Programming (required for CIS programming and web technologies majors; a prerequisite for CIS 285)
Note: beginning Fall 2009, CIS 110 has been renumbered CIS 150, and the original CIS 273 has been renumbered CIS 161 (a new course numbered CIS 273C was added to the networking degree program effective in the 2016-17 catalog). The content of these courses should not change, and students who passed the courses with the previous numberings do not need to take the courses with the new numberings. Students whose degree requirements include CIS 161 but who have not taken the course already should now take CIS 270, which serves as the new introductory networking course.
Also, effective Fall 2015, CIS 268 and CIS 269 have been combined into a single course, CIS 263. Students who have already completed both courses do not need to take CIS 263. Students who took only one of the two courses will have to take CIS 263 to complete their requirements. Students who started with older catalogs that require both courses will be allowed to take CIS 263 in their stead.
Previous courses:
- CIS 208 - Intermediate Web Development (Microsoft Expression Web)
- CIS 263 - Computer Maintenance (required for all CIS majors; formerly two separate courses, CIS 268 and CIS 269)
- CIS 268 - Software Support (previously required for all CIS majors; merged into CIS 263 in Fall 2015)
- CIS 269 - Hardware Support (previously required for all CIS majors; merged into CIS 263 in Fall 2015)
- CIS 285 - Object-Oriented Programming (Advanced Java) (required for CIS programming majors; may be required for transfer to certain four-year Computer Science programs)
